Power Terminal
28 October 2026
Power Terminal saves your long or repeated commands under short names, so typing dev runs npm run dev. One name can also run several commands at once, like startall starting the frontend, backend and database together.
In the IDE
Works in VS Code, Cursor and Antigravity. Open the command palette with ctrl + shift + p, then:
- Power Terminal: Create Command: type a name with no spaces, then your commands one by one, and press Enter on an empty line to finish.
- Power Terminal: Run Command: type the name, plus any arguments.
- Power Terminal: Delete Command: type the name.
In any terminal
Saved commands are ordinary programs on your PATH, so you just type the name in any terminal. In AI CLIs like Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI, type ! followed by the name.
To manage commands without opening an IDE, use pt. It comes with the extension, or you can install it on its own:
npm install -g powerterminal
pt add <name> <command/s> save a command
pt list list saved commands
pt remove <name> delete a command
Arguments
Arguments go after the name. Without placeholders they're added to the end:
saved command : git pull origin
you type : pull main
runs : git pull origin main
To put them somewhere else in the command, use $1 to $9 for one argument by position, or $* / $@ for all of them:
saved command : npm install $1 --save-dev
you type : need typescript
runs : npm install typescript --save-dev
Why use it
- Save once, use everywhere. Create a command from any IDE or with
pt, and run it in any terminal or AI CLI. - Name it your way. English, Arabic (
ابدأ) or emoji (🚀) all work. Names that would hide a real program, likegitorcd, are refused. - A saved prompt, everywhere. A command can hold a prompt you reuse, like
claude -p "review my staged changes". A skill belongs to one tool; a saved command works in every folder and every terminal.
